Bottomless Pit 2

 MARY HANSON

 ✿ Catherine Stanhope (1618-1618)
 ✿ Anne Stanhope (1623- )

If you're thinking Mary's birth year is a typo, you're an optimist. A birth year of 1575 would be better than having her parents and most of her children dying before her own birth. It would not, however, explain the births and deaths of Mary's parents, husband and children all occurring in England. Changing her birth year would also not improve the rest of the profile which is after the jump.
Here are just a few highlights (numbers in parenthesis are the number of events that are exact duplicates):

Clickophile Too

Rule #8: Editing out blatantly erroneous data from a clickophile's tree does not make the information accurate.

Here we have part of a tree that was obviously created by a clickophile:

 Peter DeWyckhurst
Birth 1198 in Coulsdon, Surrey, England
 Death 1220 in Surrey, England

 PARENTS & SIBLINGS
 Peter DeWyckhurst (1180-1203)
 Lady Peter De Wyckhurst (1180-1203)
 ✿ Peter DeWyckhurst (1180-1203) [female]
 ✿ Peter DeWyckhurst (1195-1220)
 ✿ WILLIAM ATTE WODE (1220-1278)
 ✿ Peter Atte Wode (1245-1313)
 HALF-SIBLINGS
(through father Peter DeWyckhurst & step-mother Peter DeWyckhurst)
 ✿ Lady Alice DeWyckhurst (1180- )
 ✿ Peter DeWyckhurst (1180-1203) [female]
 ✿ Peter DeWyckhurst (1195-1220)

 SPOUSE & CHILDREN
 Lady Alice DeWyckhurst (1199-1220)
 ✿ Lady DeWyckhurst (1184- )
 ✿ Peter DeWyckhurst (1184-1203) [female]
 ✿ Peter DeWyckhurst (1195-1220)
 ✿ William Atte Wode (1220-1245)
 ✿ William Atwood (1224-1245)
 ✿ William Atte Wode (1224-1278)
 ✿ Peter Atte Wode (1245-1313)

The only "sources" are 16 other trees, no records. No surprise there. This person has accepted all the data from the other trees without question. The profile above is one of two trees used for the profile below. The other "source" tree only has Peter, his wife, his father, and one son, William Atte Wode.

 Peter DeWyckhurst
Birth 1198 in Coulsdon, Surrey, England
 Death 1220 in Surrey, England

 SPOUSE & CHILDREN
 Lady Alice DeWyckhurst (1199-1220)
Married 1219 in Coulsdon, Surrey, England
 ✿ Lady (1184- )
 ✿ Peter DeWyckhurst (1195-1220)
 ✿ William Atte Wode (1220-1245)

Again, no actual records. If you think making "corrections" while copying other trees makes your tree better than theirs stop kidding yourself. Unless you have documentation to back up those corrections you are a clickophile too.

Yowza!

Rule #5: You do not get to choose your ancestors.
Genealogy is not a buffet. You cannot pick and choose which of your 4th great-grandfather's wives is in your direct line because one is more interesting or easier to research.

Rule #6: Your female ancestor did not give birth when she was 74 years old.
Men can become fathers at any point during their adult lives. The same cannot be said for women. There are a few rare cases of women getting pregnant naturally over the age of 50. There's a list here. A source for one of the births on that list is an Ancestry Member Tree so I wouldn't consider it reliable. It is Wikipedia after all. If you can document a post-50 birth in your tree, without question, then you should go buy a lottery ticket.

You'll notice that this profile breaks Rule #1 and Rule #2 too. It's just all kinds of wrong. Sigh. See what other errors you can find.

Rule #2: Children cannot be born years after their parents have died.

Bottomless Pit

Thanks to Claire for the link to this profile! I wanted to thank her right at the top because you may never get to the bottom of this post. Seriously. I think this tree owner has added every event from their entire tree to this one profile.
Some of the more amusing notes are on events that have no date. If you want to skip to those you may want to start at the end of the post and scroll up.
If you see events not in chronological order they are not typos on my part. I think Ancestry's computer just threw up its metaphorical hands in despair. With almost 2000 marriage events who can blame it?
These are the records/sources attached to the profile:

There's a span of almost 40 years with no births but plenty of children were born before and after that dry spell. About half of the children were born before their maternal grandparents. Every "record" attached to the profile is for John Garner, and it's not even the John Garner Jane was supposedly married to. There's a marriage event in Wyoming a couple of centuries before it became a state. The tree owner couldn't find the name of one female child, or her spouse, but figuring out the death date was no problem. And of course it's always amusing to have a woman giving birth to children that have two fathers and showing that one of those fathers sired children after his death.
Did I miss anything?

 ONLY RECORD ATTACHED
U.S. and Canada, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s
William Moore, born abt 1763, arrival year: 1765

Let me get this straight. William was born to parents who, if they had lived, would have been 89 and 61 years old. He married a woman, twice, who was 26 years his senior. One of the marriages occurred before he was born, the other when he was five. That makes sense since he also fathered a child before his own birth. Of course that was his second birth since he immigrated 2 years after his first birth.
Like most examples on this blog I could have my pick of profiles from this tree. Son Aaron has a child born in 1782 and wife Ann is a bigamist with two children sired by another man in 1775. She married him in 1781, a year after her second marriage to William.
How does this ridiculousness escape the notice of the tree owner?

Sometimes I'll be just about done typing in details and click over to a parent's or spouse's profile only to realize that it is the one I should be writing about. Today was one of those days. A man who died at the age of 7 did not father one child, much less 16. And a man who died at the age of 20 did not father 22 children. Maybe after medical advances in late 20th century but certainly not in the 18th.

William Cox (b. 1814) and Margaret Ann Whitaker, 1869
 ✿ U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900
    William Cox (b. 1816) and Margaret Ann Whitaker (b. 1874), 1869

The United States acquired Kansas in 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. That would make George Larrison quite the pioneer. And since his daughter wasn't born until 1822 it also makes him a zombie. Being sired by a zombie must give her powers to defy the space-time continuum. She can be born in both Texas and Ireland and continue to live on past her death as her husband. Luckily it was only his marriage records that were added to her profile and not his wives.
The last record above has an alternate name submitted and a comment. They are so very helpful.
Alternate name suggestion:
"Margaret Whitaker rather than William Cox
Her date of birth is wrong. It showes [sic] she got married before she was born. Showes [sic] she got married in 1869 and she was born 1874. That just can not be right, please check this out. Thank You, [name]"
Comment:
"I believe the spouse year is wrong! She was married before she was born."
Of course it couldn't possibly be a typo and they couldn't be bothered check the reliability of the source.

It couldn't possibly be correct or include additional information (i.e. his mother's name). It could also lead you to a father who wasn't 199 years old when Robert was born. We can't have that.
And a record for Robert's child? Sure add that. Makes perfect sense to add that to his profile and not, by the way, to her profile. Neither Sarah has records attached. Maybe if they did someone would have noticed that the second Sarah was born after both parents were dead.
Then there's the Civil War record. Always a logical choice for someone who died in the early 19th century. The surnames are the same so it has to be the same person, right?
Sigh.

Nearly, but NO!

A couple of notes before the post. First, if you've emailed since New Year's Day I'm sorry I haven't responded! I've gotten behind on answering emails to my blog address. I'm planning on going through those this week. Second, the title of this post is a line from Phantom of the Opera. Hearing the show 8 times a week I can probably recite the entire book. Unfortunately I have no idea what's happening because we can't see anything from the pit. So the title is just to amuse myself ;-)
Okay, on to the post...

Timeline and Records for Minnie Gertrude Donaldson

 1870 Birth in Illinois
1880 Residence in Fillmore, Montgomery, Illinois
U.S. Federal Census: Minnie Donaldson, born abt 1871 in Illinois

1892 Marriage to Elijah Harvey Randles
1900 Residence in Fillmore, Montgomery, Illinois
U.S. Federal Census: Minnie G Randle, born Nov 1870 in Illinois
1910 Residence in Ricks, Christian, Illinois
U.S. Federal Census: Minnie Randle, born abt 1871 in Illinois
1920 Residence in Spring Valley, Shannon, Missouri
U.S. Federal Census: Minnie Randle, born abt 1871 in Illinois
 1923 Death
         Find A Grave Index, Missouri
Minnie G Randle, 1872-1923 [memorial includes a photo of the stone]
1925 Residence in Brooklyn, Kings, New York
N.Y. State Census: Minnie G Donaldson, born abt 1870 in United States
1935 Residence in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska
1940 Residence in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska
U.S. Federal Census:  Minnie Donaldson, born abt 1870 in Illinois
[no date] Burial in Summersville, Texas County, Missouri
Find A Grave Index, Missouri         Minnie G Randle, 1872-1923 [memorial includes a photo of the stone]

Some info not included above, mostly because I couldn't figure out how to show it without it looking like the jumbled mess that it is. From census info Minnie and Elijah have at least 4 children. The profile on this tree shows one. After Minnie rises from the dead and moves to New York she is living with her 6 children who all have the Donaldson surname. When she moves to Nebraska she's living with her brother, Alex Lendberg. Makes perfect sense.
In the last couple of days the tree owner has deleted the events after death so maybe there's hope. The records are still attached which means everyone else who has Minnie Gertrude Donaldson in their tree will be getting those records as hints. How many of them will attach the records without a thought?

Do I start with the son born in the 13th century? Or maybe the one born in the 15th century? Or the daughter born in the 19th century? Or one of the dozens of other egregious errors?
UGH!!!

The crazy seems to go on forever but this post won't. I'll try to boil it down to just a few sentences.
David is born 30 years before his father who is also his son. At the age of 2 he becomes a father and is born again in 1879. In a single day he marries himself and two women. Did I miss anything?
